On warm summer days
there’s no better to do,
Than to lie back and bask in the lull.

In the distance the birds sing
their hearts desire,
While the sun lifts a lazy haze,
The morning breeze is light and cool,
And the sea is all aglaze.

The cautious crab crawls ever onward,
The Octopus eyes it with glee,
The Barnacles bath in a shower of sparkles,
A day on the coast is for me.

The green of the bush and the blue of the sea,
Is something to behold,
Every sound, every smell is calling us,
To hear the world’s story told.

Blue ocean broken only by the waves,
Golden sands washed like windows in a storm,
Sea birds wander listlessly over
The cliffs and craggs they call home.

The kelp beds wave as if dancing,
To a tune that only they know,
The porpoise eloquently prancing,
Delighted to put on a show.

The scent of salt spray in the air,
The squawk of ever hungry gulls,
The picnics were so popular, all came who had the chance, and children ran in races – then performed a maypole dance.
